Snack Suggestions for Kids
LOW-SUGAR SNACK SUGGESTIONS FOR KIDS1. Peanuts and raisins, mixed put mixture in a paper cup for kids to carry around when playing outside 2. Celery & carrot sticks used as dippers for peanut butter, cottage cheese, cream cheese or heated bean dip 3. Fresh fruits - whole or cut attractively & served on a saucer (apples in wedges to make a pin wheel or orange disks) 4. Quarters of hard boiled eggs - deviled egg halves 5. Cubes of Monterey Jack cheese & a handful of wheat thin crackers 6. Mozzerela string cheese strips 7. Flavored yogurts - in moderation, sugar added 8. Cottage cheese topped with sugar-free jam and sprinkle with nuts 9. Bologna faces - make your own variations! 10. Carrot pennies-cut carrot into "coin" shaped slices - kids eat money 11. Fruit juices - V-8 is excellent especially lo-sodium V-8 12. Milk shake- milk, 8oz. - banana or other fruit 1 egg - tsp. honey - 2 ice cubes whirl in blender 1 min. 13. Fruit shake- peaches or bananas or plums or apples - 1/2 cup copped, add 2 ice cubes, 1 cup plain yogurt whirl in blender 1 min. 14. Butterfly sandwich - peanut butter on wheat bread or cream cheese w/ sugar-free jam. 15. Popcorn - pop before they come home from school - have ready 16. Unsweetend cereals (check label for sugar content) with milk & raisins or fresh fruit, lo-sugar granola too. 17. Fruit ice pops-freeze in ice cube trays or pop-maker orange, grape or grapefruit juice, add sticks when slushy-freeze till hard. 18. A handful of unsalted peanut or sunflower seed (best eaten outside) 19. Slices of raisin bread topped with Jack cheese. Delicious broiled! 20. Fresh strawberries on a toasted waffle spread with cottage or cream cheese. 21. Bread sticks or pretzels. 22. Frozen banana pops. Cut banana in halves, put stick in cut end, freeze three hours or more. Dip in granola or chopped nuts or serve plain. Creamy and really good.
